Benioff on adaptations
David Benioff was interviewed by the National Post at the International Festival of Authors a few weeks back and although he didn’t specifically mention ASIOAF, he did talk about what it is like to adapt another author’s work into a screenplay.
I think it’s fun being able to go back and forth [between writing novels and screenplays] and I think it’s helpful for me when I’m adapting someone else’s book, a living writer anyway, as a novelist I know how protective they are of their material. I know they don’t want to see it f****d with. I think it gives me a different perspective from writers who aren’t screenwriters.
Winter Is Coming: Good to see that Benioff is serious about remaining true to the source material. George R. R. Martin himself has said that the pilot script is very faithful to the book, so one can only hope that if this series gets going, the rest of the episodes will remain that way.
