Have we cracked the code?

It seems we are getting very close to solving GRRM’s riddles. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Tower of the Hand for the excellent summary of the clues and the popular choices so far. In short, this is where we stand as to the roles that have been cast and the actors that seem most likely to play them.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister
Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy
Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont
Unknown child actor as Arya
Unknown child actor as Sansa

There are still two roles that we have been unable to come to a consensus on. The popular suggestions are Tamzin Merchant as Dany, Elizabeth Banks as Cersei and Richard Madden as Robb. None of these seem as solid as the above suggestions because none of them fit all the remaining clues. It may take more clues to get a definitive answer on these last two spots. Of course, HBO could just release the names tonight and make all of our hard work totally pointless!

On a related note, I’ve been informed by people in the know that HBO is very much aware of the buzz surrounding this pilot. Whether they are purposely withholding the names to help build buzz is unknown, but they are keeping tabs on the fan base and they are taking notice. So good job everyone and let’s keep those hype levels rising!

UPDATE: Martin has posted to his blog again, this time giving us some “anti-clues.”

I wish I could tell you who will be playing Maester Luwin, Grand Maester
Pycelle, the Hound, Ser Rodrik, Khal Drogo, Magister Illyrio, Gared, Will, Ser
Waymar Royce, and Cersei Lannister… but those parts have not been cast yet, to
the best of my knowledge.

A number of other parts have not been cast yet either. That list is by no
means exhaustive.

We do have some great contenders, though, and of course I have my own
favorites. A few of these might be filled by the end of the day tomorrow. Or
not.

At this writing, the secret seven is still the secret seven.

Notice the distinct lack of Dany, Robb and Ser Jorah. This seems to confirm they have been cast (as many people speculated). The other role most people were assuming to be cast was Cersei and we now know she has NOT yet been cast.
