Boardwalk Empire gets season order

To the surprise of no one, Boardwalk Empire has received a full season order. The order is for 11 more episodes, with the pilot serving as the 12th (although I assume it will be aired first). It was originally reported by HBO that they would start shooting the full season sometime this month. It looks like they are targeting a 2010 premiere date.

HBO is building a “Boardwalk Empire” with a series order for the Martin Scorsese-directed pilot.

The premium cable network has picked up 11 episodes of the period drama, bringing the total order to 12 hours, including the pilot.

Production on the series is slated to begin this fall for a 2010 premiere.

Winter Is Coming: So what does this mean for Thrones? Well I don’t think it means they are just going to drop Thrones now that Empire is going to series. It seems like HBO’s desire is to have all three of their new drama projects, Treme being the other, on air. Treme is slated to start in spring 2010, my guess is Empire will start airing in fall 2010. It would make sense than that HBO would want to debut Game of Thrones in winter 2010. That would be a killer line-up.
