Myrcella cast, may be pilot only though
According to the Twitter account of Northern Irish golfer John Richardson, his daughter Aimee has been cast as Myrcella in the Game of Thrones pilot. You can see her in a video posted on Richardson’s official website at about the 2 minute mark.
It sounds like the actors playing Myrcella and other “featured extra” roles may only be around for the pilot though. Over at Westeros we received a report from a fan at ValleyCon at which GRRM mentioned the possibility of all these roles being recast if this goes to series.
He mentioned that there are a lot of people in the pilot that have not been cast, and won’t be cast for the pilot. The example he gave was Tommen. Tommen is in the Pilot, but doesn’t have any lines. So he is played by an extra. If the show gets picked up, he will need to be cast and played by a “real” actor. So the Tommen in the pilot will not be the Tommen in the series. They might go back and reshoot the Tommen scene, or they might not. But the same thing applies to a lot of the Winterfell minor characters that we see but don’t hear. And with so many, it will not be possible to reshoot all of the scenes. Sharp eyes might catch this. Most people won’t.
Winter Is Coming: Nice to see an actual blonde cast for once. Aimee does seem a bit older than the pilot script originally indicated Myrcella would be (8 years old). Maybe they’ve decided to age up the royal kids after all? Would make sense as I still think it would be quite ridiculous having a 13 year old Joffrey acting physically superior to a clearly much older and larger 18 year old Robb. Of course, Joff is pretty full of himself.
As to recasting, that was inevitable. I’m hoping they don’t make it too prevalent or noticeable. On the other hand, I’d rather they not take a ton of time reshooting stuff so they can get right into filming the remainder of the season, if it gets to that point. The sooner we get to see the end result, the better. And if it means a completely different Tommen from episode 1 to episode 2, well, I’m sure I’ll be able to deal with it.
