Auditions for Dany ongoing

It seems we got some sort of confirmation of there being ongoing auditions for the role of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. Ran of Westeros tweeted the following:

Since the ? came up: yes, Daenerys auditions ongoing. Can’t provide further info, but it’s a fact.

Winter Is Coming: Can’t say I’m surprised. Once the casting sides didn’t disappear soon after us first noticing them, I was pretty convinced that they were legit. The tweeting of certain actresses only helped support that position. The question then becomes, if they are auditioning actresses for the role of Dany, what of Tamzin Merchant? The official position is that Merchant is not out until a recasting is announced. Some have said they may just want to be thorough and make sure they have the best possible Dany. Others have floated the possibility that they may be looking for an understudy or “back up.”

My opinion? Tamzin is gone. It just doesn’t make any sense for David & Dan to go through the process of finding another Dany if Merchant still has the role. Whether they are recasting the role because Merchant wanted out, due to scheduling conflicts or what-have-you, or because they weren’t happy with her performance is unknown. Whatever the reason, I’m pretty confident in saying we won’t be seeing Tamzin Merchant as Dany.
