HBO shows Thrones trailer at investor meeting

While doing my daily reading of what’s new in the world of Song of Ice and Fire, I stumbled across an interesting comment over at the infamous Finish the Book, George blog. An anonymous commenter claimed that HBO execs showed footage from Game of Thrones during a Time Warner Inc. financial presentation.

I did some research and sure enough there was a Time Warner investor meeting on May 27. HBO CEO Bill Nelson was in attendance and gave a 45-minute presentation on HBO as a company. I listened to the whole presentation in the hopes of hearing something about Thrones and just when I was ready to give it up and write off the anonymous commenter as a liar, lo and behold, Bill Nelson introduces two trailers for the upcoming series’ Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. It is around the 38 minute mark of the HBO presentation, if anyone wishes to hear it for themselves.

Winter Is Coming: As cool as it was to hear them announce a trailer for Game of Thrones, it was a huge tease as well because the webcast of the presentation didn’t show the video! Damn, so close! I must say, now that we know there is a Game of Thrones trailer out there, HBO better be planning to release it to the public soon. I mean they let stuffy suits get to see footage from one of their most anticipated shows ever while the loyal fans are left to pick up scraps of news from tweets and blog comments? That’s not cool.

UPDATE: Consider this info rumor until I can get confirmation it was the same person but I asked for more info about what the trailer contained and the anonymous commenter replied with this info:

Okay to answer your questions:

Characters included Ned, Bran, Cersei, Jamie, Wow been so long since i read these freaking books forgetting names now.. Robert Baratheon! there it is, Tyrion, Rob Stark, I think the two girl starks too. Lots of scenes with Drogo but none of Dany or Catelyn since they were cut. Several scenes of the dothraki types in general.. which were the only ones that looked mildly cheesy given some crazy outfits and hairstyles.

Plenty of dialogue with some very cool lines with Robert asking Ned to join him. and some good lines from Tyrion. Funny there was a ton of nudity too and Investor relations guy of Time Warner even joked about it after clip. Looks like a prosititute in one scene and definetely a shot of Bran looking in on Jamie nailing cersei in another with clip of him climbing ruined tower to see them. Shot of ned beheading the guy at beginning of book too.

More character shots than wide angle landscape… but the ones they did show were cool special effects shots of city where Dany was before Drogo (is that his name?) and one of I think Winterfell given snow none of Kings Landing i think unless i confused that one with the prior city i mentioned. None of the Wall that I recall but could have been a quick clip of it. Very cool last clip of the blue eyed zombies approaching the guys in the first scene of the book. Overall liked look of it and it certainly looks to be very adult violence/nudity thanks HBO.
