World-class make-up artist joins the game

An eventful day results in another confirmed addition to the GOT production. This time not an actor, but a crew member – Paul Engelen, make-up artist. And what a resume this one has! All this revealed in the following post by George R.R. Martin:

I thought you all might like to hear about one of the latest hires come aboard — world-class makeup artist PAUL ENGELEN has signed up to do the hair and makeup design for our series.

You may or may not have heard of Mr. Engelen before, but if you’ve seen a TV show or a film in the last couple of decades, you have certainly seen his work. His credits include Ridley Scott’s recent ROBIN HOOD, Narnia, CASINO ROYALE, V FOR VENDETTA, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, TROY, GLADIATOR, James Bond, Tarzan, A FISH CALLED WANDA, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS… oh, and something called STAR WARS too.

Oh, and he’s been nominated twice for the Academy Award for best makeup, and five times for a BAFTA. Won one of the latter, too.

Hear Me Roar: George and the production team are thrilled to have him on board, and so am I – not that I really knew his name, I admit, but his credits are nothing short of astonishing. Really, with each addition to the team HBO up it a notch when we think they already have reached the ceiling of tv series production quality. It also seems that GRRM will inform us of anything and everything concerning Game of Thrones unless he is specifically told not to. This bodes well for the fan community ever eager to get more news — we are getting what we wanted, the pace has started to pick up properly now that we are one month away from the first day of shooting.
