More casting news: Syrio and Rast
It appears as if two more have been added to the cast of Game of Thrones. We now have a Syrio and a Rast.
Miltos Yerolemou (right) has reportedly been cast as Syrio Forel. Yerolemou confirmed the casting on his Twitter account. Yerolemou is a Shakespearean trained actor with an impressive list of theater credits to his name. He has a small amount of TV and film work as well, but this looks to be his biggest on-screen role yet.
UPDATE: Here are some links to a couple showreels of Miltos’ work: Spotlight and Youtube.
Also joining the cast is Luke McEwan, who will be playing Rast. McEwan is more of an unknown, although it appears he also has a stage background. Based on some quick Googling, it seems he played the lead role in the National Youth Theatre’s rendition of the Shakespeare play Cymbeline in Oct 2009. If anyone is able to find out more on McEwan, including any photos, post it in the comments and I’ll add it to the post.
UPDATE: Screenterrier has turned up the photo of Luke McEwan on the left from the 2009 class of the Oxford School of Drama. I was able to get in touch with Luke and confirm he is indeed our Rast. I have to say, this is some spot-on casting.
Winter Is Coming: Well the casting news keeps coming. These both seem like good choices. I know many people wanted a big-name actor for Syrio (Patrick Stewart for example) but I don’t think that was ever a realisitic possibility. Yerolemou should be great, his Shakespearean background is perfect for Syrio. McEwan is an unknown, but the reviews he received for his role in Cymbeline were mostly positive. And Rast just needs to be a bully, so his acting talents shouldn’t be stretched.
I suspect more and more castings will continue to leak out over the next week or so. GRRM picked a perfect time to go away didn’t he? Anyway, still waiting on the big casting announcement from HBO.
