Conan talks GREGOR
Conan Stevens, as promised, provides a detailed and interesting article on his website on the casting process and the steps he took to secure the role (*Disclaimer: Stevens reports he has as of yet not signed the contract, but since news broke that HBO confirmed his casting, he feels safe to speak about it.) First, here is his reaction:
I am happy to be working with professionals on a professional Western shoot again. Production has been rather accomodating and flexible which has been an added bonus and makes me happy to be working with them.
Another item of interest to the fans is this casting call for Gregor Clegane:
THE PRODUCTION TEAM: This project is produced by Carolyn Strauss, the HBO veteran behind HBO hits “The Sopranos”, “Sex and the City” and “Rome” and is written and produced by David Benioff (“Troy”; “The Kite Runner”) and D B Weiss (“Kashmir”; “Untitled I Am Legend Sequel”).
SER GREGOR CLEGANE: Caucasian. Aged 40s. A monstrous knight in the service of the cruel House Lannister. He is often dispatched to cary out their most ruthless and depraved missions. Over seven feet tall, brutish and enormously strong, Ser Gregor’s prowess on the battlefield is matched only by his cruelty. An incredible physical specimen.
In the continuation, Conan provides a three-year overview of events and decision he made in that period that eventually led towards landing the role. A long and winding path on which he played his cards well! We were apparently right in our guesses as to what his strategy could have been. Here is how Conan’s journey came to a satisfying conclusion:
- 27 May 2010 – Nina Gold casting emailed me directly saying that I had auditioned for them previously (!) and was I interested in playing the part of Ser Gregor Clegane? My heart jumped into my mouth at this news, what a heart starter for the day – I skipped my morning pre-workout coffee as I was already jumping out of my skin.
- 07 July 2010 – www.westeros.org and www.winter-is-coming.net run articles that HBO has confirmed that I am to play Ser Gregor Clegane, as I am not sure if it’ll be professional of me to write when the contract is still not yet signed I email my agent asking him if it’d be ok.
- 09 July 2010 – having seen the story even running on French langauge wesites I guess it is OK to post my own article so I write this.
Read the entire article and learn about the Asian movie market, Conan’s contacts with Neil Fingleton, the writing skills of ASoIaF fans, and more!
Hear Me Roar: Congratulations again, and break a leg (or two, of other characters, that is). Thanks for the flattering shout-out peppered text, the fan community and the Winter is Coming blog appreciate that! Great to have you with us, Conan.
