Production diary to offer inside look at Thrones
In an unexpected move, HBO has launched a whole site dedicated to providing updates on the production from the crew of Game of Thrones. Titled “Making Game of Thrones” the site exists in a blog format and writer Bryan Cogman will apparently be providing much of the material.
I’m Bryan Cogman, and I have the good fortune and honor to be a writer on ‘Game of Thrones.’ I penned the fourth episode and assisted executive producers/writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss in adapting the sprawling first book of the series into 10 first-season episodes. I’m also the script editor and unofficial “keeper of the text,” having written a bunch of resource documents (family trees, timelines, etc.) to keep the show’s massive mythology straight.

These dispatches will aim to give you a (spoiler-free) glimpse behind the scenes of ‘Game of Thrones.’ I’ll check in a couple of times a week with updates and personal musings from the production here in Belfast and hopefully give you an idea of the exceptional and tireless work being performed everyday by our international cast and crew.
The site currently has posts highlighting the two new videos as well as the new promo pic. It also has a wonderful letter from David Benioff and D. B. Weiss to the fans of the show. I particularly liked this part.
The enthusiasm for the show was palpable before a single actor was cast or a frame shot. Trust us: the Powers That Be noticed. And so did we. When we spend two hours discussing the details of the House Bolton sigil or the hilt of a certain Valyrian steel dagger or the content of a few pages from ‘The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms’ that won’t be onscreen for more than a second – sometimes we wonder if anyone will notice. But someone will. You guys will. And it makes all the difference knowing there are people out there who care as much about this story as we do. We all want to get it right.
Spoiler Alert!
