More set photos

By now, everyone has probably already seen the purported set photo from Mdina, Malta. It seems quite likely this is from Game of Thrones. The costumes of the two men on horseback very closely resemble the glimpses we’ve seen of the gold cloaks’ costumes. Also, we’ve heard from certain extras that the costumes of the extras in this shot are exactly like those worn by the peasants at the Hand’s tournament scene. So all signs point to this being from Thrones and it being a scene in King’s Landing.

Some more set photos emerged the other day, these from the Tollymore Forest set. Set photographer extraordinaire Martin has posted a couple of photos, one showing the fake snow covered forest and the other showing an old bridge. This bridge was supposedly used during the filming of the finding of the direwolf pups scene. If I remember correctly, in the books this scene took place next to a stream, so it seems they have remained very faithful to the source material here.

Winter Is Coming: I love the look of that old bridge. Not so in love with the look of the Malta extras. I understand wanting to draw inspiration from other cultures to create the world of Westeros. But won’t it look a bit incongruous to see Greco-Roman looking peasants and early Middle Ages looking nobles mingling together? I will wait until we see the finished product before casting any final judgements. I have faith in Gemma Jackson that everything will look great in the end, but she certainly wasn’t lying when she said she was mixing and matching cultures and periods of history to craft the look of the show.
