Day 147: The last day of filming
A banner day over in Belfast, as today is the final day of filming on the first season of Game Of Thrones. We had originally heard Dec. 18 would be the last day, but it appears that they are wrapping a little earlier than planned as reported by Westeros and backed up by a tweet from writer Bryan Cogman. UPDATE: GRRM notes that principal photography has wrapped as well over at his Not A Blog.
So what now? Well post-production will continue on the first season. It seems the first few episodes may already be completed, but there is still much work left to be done on the remainder of the episodes leading up to the April premiere. HBO likes to have post-production on all episodes completed prior to airing a series and it looks like Game Of Thrones will be no exception.
At the same time, many of the key crew members will only have a short break before beginning work on season two. Scripting, location scouting, working on costumes and props are among some of the tasks that we have heard will be underway soon after the calendar turns. While we have speculated this may be part of an unofficial green light, or “amber light”, the word is that this is being done whether a green light comes or not.
Still, this day is another page turned in the journey of this production and this site. The last four and half months have been quite a blast. Set reports and set photos from our Belfast Spy Force, tweets and comments and posts from the cast and crew, HBO beginning the marketing push with new trailers, promos and their production blog. The moot! Many great moments. What was your favorite?
And yet, the next few months will be even more exciting as we inch ever closer to the long-awaited premiere. In the immortal words of Doc Halladay, “It was fun, but it’s only going to get funner.”
