Five new interviews
They are coming fast and furious, Winter said. And he was right. We have five (5!) interviews for you today, all fresh.
First off, Den of Geek, who supplied the review of the first episode earlier today, also published an interview with Alfie Allen and Emilia Clarke. Here is a short bit on the production value:
Do you think the lines are becoming blurred between film and TV now? I mean, the scale of Game Of Thrones is on a par with a film.
AA: Definitely.
EC: It’s like a ten hour film, basically.
AA: My mum’s a film producer, and I know there was a point where there wasn’t much money going into film. HBO are doing so well with DVD sales and stuff that they have a lot of money to put into something like this.
EC: The calibre of TV’s changing. It’s becoming much more epic. To rival film, definitely.
They cover several aspects of the two actors’ involvement, including their characters, when they started reading the books, and – nudity. That should sell the interview, click the link to read what episode they go full monty in. Just don’t picture them in the same scene together, okay? That would be bad fanfic. (Okay, I think I have caught something from FabiHoff the other day, jeez).
Next, we have an interview from our Westeros.org brothers in arms with Bryan Cogman, writer (episode four: Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things) and unofficial script co-ordinator on Game of Thrones. He explains his backgroud, how he got involved with the production (‘marry a good nanny’, is Bryan’s recommedation), what exactly his role was, and what scenes he likes writing best.
Then The New York Times has a interview with George R.R. Martin, dsicussing the now familiar things about the irony of producing a show never meant to be produced, and how it nevertheless came to be. Also discussed is the level of magic in his epic tale, and how the general public is slowly but surely embracing the fantasy genre.
London Evening Standard has a great on-line interview with the Emilia Clarke, Harry Lloyd, and Richard Madden trio (also featured in the print edition). The backgrouds of the three actors are presented with quite a bit of new info, and they talk about camaraderie behind the scenes, exploring their characters, fight scenes, sex scenes, and much more. Read the interview for some gossip about who Emilia might be dating. As a special bonus, the actors participated in a fashion photo shoot. Tonnes of glamour between the three of them.
Here is what Lloyd has to say about the fanbase:
You have no idea and then you go online and… bang! You realise that you better not f*** this up because there are huge forums devoted to this whole thing. Everyone’s got a very specific idea of what it should be like.
Last but not least, an interview with Ronan Hill, sound mixer on Game of Thrones. He explains the technical challenges of a large-scale production like that, and gives us a better idea how much hard work it is to shoot a high-end series. Lots of technical details in this one for those interested.
P.S. Oh, and here is a freebie: The Guardian has talked to the Real Madrid footballer (okay, soccer player, for those across the pond) Alvaro Arbeloa. It turns out he’s reading the ASoIaF series and mentions the HBO adaptation as well. Fans when you would perhaps least expect them. Only shows the width of the base.
