Otaku Assembles for ‘Thrones!

Larry Williams, the You Tube OAW Commander-In-Chief and all-around awesome anime reviewer dude, is one of those people, those rare reviewers, we’ve been looking for. It’s hard to put into words the review he gives, exactly. So if you haven’t seen this vid—20 minutes long—see it now.

(Warning: NSFW due to language. There are obviously Game of Thrones episode one spoilers here.)

Passion? Oh yes. Excitement? More than yes! I love this dude. This, my friends, is the kind of buzz HBO wants.

Fire And Blood: There will be a small few of you out there, some small section of erudite A Song of Ice and Fire fans, who dismiss the idea of featuring such a review simply based on the fact that he got so many facts wrong. Or that he mis-guessed on various things, or even because he came into this show with virtually no information save for an abiding respect for Sean Bean and the genre. Which is of course the very idea for putting this up. The show stunned him. I’ve seen his Naruto reviews; this guy is not usually at a loss for words.

But that’s exactly why I love the review. It’s immediate. It’s off the cuff. Larry saw something he loved and he leapt online to talk about it. And “it” was our show.

“And they killed him! They’re ****ing killing children!”

Yeah, that’s pretty much how the rest of us felt when we read the book. Jaime says, “The things I do for love…”

And that’s it. Hooked.

I feel a brief pang of sadness for Larry, because soon, like many of us, he will probably seek out more information that could spoil future surprises. I hope he doesn’t. I hope he (and others like him) are able to re-watch the first episode, get a few of the facts straight (Robert took the throne from the Targaryens, who he blames for the death of Ned’s sister, which is why he hates them), and go into episode 2 ready and willing to partake.

Tell you what, Larry’s right about Snow being a major player. And oddly, I love the fact that he referenced Peter Dinklage without once referring to him as a dwarf.

“And he’s a Gemini too. ****ing right.”

****ing right indeed. Gemini 4 life, son.

Keep on doing what you’re doing, Lar. Weekly reviews? Yes please.
