Game of Thrones Emmy submissions
HBO has released their submissions for the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards, which includes their category placements for Game of Thrones and its actors. Gold Derby has the scoop:
“Game of Thrones” debuted to strong reviews and ratings. Like “Boardwalk Empire,” it was renewed for a second season after only one episode had aired. HBO sent Emmy voters an impressive screner package and has confirmed the following category placements for its two hot new dramas:
“Game of Thrones”
Drama Series
Drama Actor: Sean Bean
Drama Actress: Lena Headey
Drama Supporting Actor: Mark Addy, Peter Dinklage, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, Aiden Gillen, Kit Harington, Jason Momoa
Drama Supporting Actress: Emilia Clarke, Michelle Fairley
Winter Is Coming: A few surprises here. I feel as though Clarke would be better for lead and Headey better for supporting. But maybe she just doesn’t have the name recognition yet. Also, Jason Momoa being submitted is surprising as he doesn’t have much to do as Drogo.
Most notably, however, Maisie Williams is not on the list. A shame as she seems to have received the most consistent praise out of all the cast members. Apparently the deadline for submissions has not passed, so there is still time for HBO to rectify their mistake and nominate Maisie Williams for Supporting Actress. C’mon HBO!
UPDATE: The Race blog at The Hollywood Reporter evaluates Game of Thrones‘ Emmy chances. Even though this article was published prior to the submissions being released, they still talk about most of Thrones‘ legit Emmy contenders.
