Brienne casting breakdown and more audition rumors

Auditions for major season two roles are now in full swing. I have heard an unconfirmed rumor that they have begun auditioning for the role of Asha, and SpoilerTV reports that Melisandre and Brienne are also in the auditioning process.

While the Asha auditions I haven’t been able to confirm, the other two I can. First, Melisandre seems to be the role the “mystery” actress TIA will be reading for, according to her blog post.

I originally auditioned for a very small role, and now I am up for a biggie! And she is evil too……. well maybe not evil but certainly not a character you would want to mess with. That is always fun, I do loving playing a powerful woman! I have practiced since I got the script a couple of days ago and know the part well. My brother has read all the books it is based on and so I always call him for the low down. His response for this one was that she was one scary motha…!

Also, I’ve been able to get my hands on the casting breakdown for the part of Brienne. And I think you guys will be happy to see that they are looking for actresses that are very close physical matches to the Brienne from the books. [BRIENNE TARTH] FEMALE. Age: 20s. A skilled warrior in service to Renly Baratheon. Larger and stronger than most men, we first meet Brienne when she wins a tournament, defeating the famed Loras Tyrell. Big-boned and plain faced, she has an awkward personality, but is also honest and loyal. She is derisively known as “Brienne the Beauty”… RECURRING. (Season Two: 6 episodes/Season Appearances: Multiple Season) Must be a MINIMUM of 5’10”. Do NOT submit actresses that look like models. We are looking for a big, WARRIOR-TYPE woman that’s more MANLY than womanly.

Winter Is Coming: No Hollywood ugly here! They are trying to stick as close as possible to the book’s description. Which is good. Of course, depending on how the search goes they may need to include some shorter or prettier girls later on down the line, but hopefully a perfect Brienne will materialize before they need to do that.

UPDATE: I just noticed that the casting breakdown has filming dates on it: July 25th- end of Dec 2011. Basically the exact same shooting schedule as last year.

UPDATE: A casting breakdown for Melisandre was posted a couple days ago over at IMDb. Also posted was the Brienne breakdown and it matches what I have posted above (although mine is a revised breakdown with a few extra clarifications at the end; supposedly to reduce the earlier submissions that were too short/pretty). Since I’m 100% sure the Brienne breakdown is legit, the Mel breakdown seems likely to be legit as well. Here it is:
