More season two speculation: babies and filming locations

A couple items of note from yesterday that provide for some interesting speculation about season two of Game of Thrones. First, is this new interview with Thrones writers/producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss at the Sydney Morning Herald. It’s a good interview that touches on many interesting topics, including whether David & Dan plan to do anything differently for season two:

Benioff: I think a lot of things. I think we’re pretty tough critics on ourselves and I think whether it’s the writing or with the other aspects of production there are lots of different things we’d like to improve and so … In terms of doing things differently, usually you have a little bit less work going into the second season, because you’ve got your cast set and you’ve got your sets set. But with this there are so many new characters that come into the second book and even though not all of them will make it into the series, a bunch will, so we’ve got a lot of casting to do. There are a lot of new worlds our existing characters visit so there are lots of sets to be built and new locations, so with any luck we’re going to be shooting in three different countries in this coming season. So there is quite a lot of work ahead of us.

Filming in “three different countries”? Seems a safe bet at this point that Croatia will join Northern Ireland and Malta as filming locations.

Also, a good thing to remember for those who may have been disappointed by certain aspects of season one: this was David & Dan’s first crack at producing and show running. Now that they have one season under their belt, I’m looking forward to seeing what they can improve upon for season two.

After the break, the production is looking to cast babies as extras for season two…

So which scenes from season two might babies be specifically needed in? The black haired baby is almost certainly going to be Robert’s bastard child, Barra, who makes a brief appearance in season one and again in book two. As to the newborns? I wonder if they might be for Craster’s Keep…
