Quick Hits: GRRM on casting, Dance discussion, Emmy reactions

  • George R. R. Martin has been on the road, doing book signings for A Dance with Dragons. Which means no casting clues from him, but according to some tweets, he revealed that more “big roles” have been cast and that the actors are in negotiations with HBO at the moment. GRRM hopes they will be announced soon, possibly at Comic-Con in San Diego.
  • Speaking of the Comic-Con, the Game of Thrones panel will be this Thursday at 3PM PT/6PM ET. Lena Headey has just been added to the panel. And there are rumors that Sean Bean may join as well.
  • With 5 days past since A Dance with Dragons was published, more and more folks are finishing it up and taking to the web to discuss the book. Our Dance thread continues to be active. If you are still reading (like me), there are some places you can go to discuss the book chapter-by-chapter without fear of spoilers, such as Westeros.org and Tower of the Hand. Also this Reddit page has done a good job of setting up some chapter-by-chapter ADWD discussion, which I have been enjoying perusing as I make my way through the book.
  • Another interesting bit of news that George revealed at one of his book signings: they’re working on an actual version of “The Rains of Castamere” for the show.
  • Lots of reaction to the Emmy nominations, here are a few noteworthy ones pertaining to Thrones: People Mag thinks Dinklage should win the Emmy, Mo Ryan reacts to the noms, so does James Poniewozik, and Jace Lacob has a list of Emmy snubs.
  • The popular Sword and Laser podcast recently had Dothraki language creator David J. Peterson on as a guest, where he talked about Dothraki, natch.
  • The American Prospect has an interesting roundtable discussion of why the books and the series have really seemed to catch on amongst American politicos.
  • Kit Harington was interviewed by the Sydney Morning Herald talking about his role as Jon Snow. Ignore the part where it says that he will have more scenes with Sean Bean in season two, which is almost certainly an error on the part of the interviewer.
  • James Cosmo (Jeor Mormont) confirms he will be heading to Belfast soon to film season two in this impromptu street interview. He also reveals is an avid archer, perhaps David & Dan can put that to use in the show?
  • Martin was recently interviewed by James Hibberd for EW.com where they talk about the books and the show. A very interesting read, especially when Martin talks about the changes he liked and disliked in the show, but beware of spoilers for later books in the series, including even Winds of Winter.
