Davos cast and Cressen confirmed!
The casting blowout continues. First, we got confirmation from George R. R. Martin that his earlier casting clues were hinting at Oliver Ford Davies as Maester Cressen. Cressen is a maester in service to Stannis Baratheon. Credit goes to Kenn Sharp for being the first to guess Davies.
Then James Hibberd adds another casting announcement to his already long list of Thrones casting exclusives, Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth! Davos is a former smuggler that has become a loyal and trusted aide to Stannis.
The final major new role on HBO’s Game of Thrones has been filled: Irish actor Liam Cunningham has landed the part of Davos for the show’s second season.
Cunningham has appeared in many productions over the years, including Starz’ now defunct Camelot, the recent Clash of the Titans remake and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
Winter Is Coming: I see HBO still hasn’t learned how to drip-feed casting announcements. Still, I think both of these choices are rock solid. Liam Cunningham as Davos, in particular, fits my mental image of the Onion Knight to a tee. The season two cast is finally starting to fill out and not a moment too soon.
