Day 2: Filming in the godswood and on Dragonstone
A few quick updates on filming this morning. We learned that yesterday they filmed near Saintfield Estate, which sounds like it is being used as the Winterfell godswood once again. Based on a tweet from Kristian Nairn (Hodor!), it seems he was involved in the filming, which makes sense. We have also received reports that they will be filming a nighttime “setting up camp” scene near Saintfield with Stark guard extras sometime today.
Later this week, they will reportedly head to Downhill beach (pictured above) to film the burning of the Seven. We know Carice van Houten (Melisandre) is in town thanks to some recent tweets, and it sounds like this might be one of her first scenes. After that, the production heads to Lane Barry quarry for filming of some unknown scenes.
UPDATE: Carice is turning out to be a great addition to the cast already! She just tweeted this photo of Richard Madden in makeup. The timing of it fits with what we have heard about filming today: a night shoot of a Stark camp scene.
UPDATE: Thrones crew was at Downhill Beach today, setting up the set for filming later this week. Local Amanda Killen was able to snap an amazing photo of the statues of the Seven assembled on the beach.
Winter Is Coming: Don’t you just love this stuff? The spy reports, the tweets, the speculation… yes, season two is in full-swing. Now if we could just get some more casting news…
