Michael McElhatton cast as Roose Bolton

The clues come from the great big GRRM in the sky, and we solve them. With verve!

Irish actor Michael McElhatton has been confirmed by George as playing the iconic Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort. Though not well known here across the pond, McElhatton is a veteran of British stage and screen, and has starred in numerous indie dramas and comedies, and from what I’ve seen scouring You Tube, he’s exceptional.

Here’s a short clip; while not precisely Boltonesque (though actually, I can see a little of it there), it shows off McElhatton’s timing and range: Perspective!

Our intrepid Lex (he’s on a roll) Kenn Sharp guessed the Bolton part right, and burth came up with McElhatton after parsing through George’s clues. Props! George says:

Congratulations, all. Or rather, some.
You’ve solved another one.
It’s the distinguished Irish actor MICHAEL MCELHATTON. He will indeed be playing pale-eyed Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort.

Fire And Blood: Looks good to me! In Nina Gold we trust. He vaguely even reminds me of Charles Dance, but only in small moments. Chalk another role up for an Irish actor. (We should keep a running tally.) McElhatton probably doesn’t realize the attention he’s going to get, playing such an … infamously interesting man like Roose. But oh, he will soon.

Break a leg, Bolton! (Like as not you’ll break more than one or two. But it’s not like you have to be told to do that, mm?)
