SAG Awards Interview Roundup

This weekend, the stars of Game of Thrones showed up in force for the SAG Awards, delivering a host of interviews at the pre-awards party on Friday night and on the awards red carpet on Sunday.

Here are the highlights and promising teases from the cast for the upcoming season:

• New cast addition Pedro Pascal reveals that he prepped for playing Oberyn Martell by training well in advance of filming with the Red Viper’s trademark spear and brushing up on his fight choreography skills. The prince from Dorne, in Pascal’s words, “doesn’t care what people think. He doesn’t give a fuck.” And when it comes to romance, the actor says of his charismatic character, “he gets around. He’s a lover and a fighter.”

• Kit Harington tells Access Hollywood that this is the season Jon Snow becomes “a leader.” The actor says that Jon “doesn’t have an older male figure speaking for him. He’s got to do the speaking and fighting for himself. So I think I enjoyed it this season. It’s a big season for him. He’s got a lot to do.” What Kit is most curious about after seeing the new trailer? “I wanna know who gets the worst death.”

• “It’s kicking off for Dany” and the khaleesi is coming into her own, says Emilia Clarke. The dragons have grown “huge,” and the actress playfully says there might be “a little something-something” with Daario Naharis this season.

• Nathalie Emmanuel reports that translator Missandei will be “growing into her role” as handmaiden and friend to Daenerys, that we’ll be learning more about Missandei and getting to “see the human side of her.” Emmanuel also says the season 4 scripts “continue to surprise and shock.”

•  The Stark kids arrived at the pre-SAG Awards party together and offered up several hints for season 4. Isaac Hempstead-Wright shares that, “Bran is sort of exploring a mystical element to his storyline and trees are quite heavily involved in that.” According to Maisie Williams, “Arya kind of finds a small place in the Hound’s heart that she actually kind of likes him. She’s kind of getting there. They’ve got like this uneasy relationship. She’s safe, I think, for now. But we’ll see what happens.” Sophie Turner, meanwhile, is a little more cagey when questioned about Sansa’s husband Tyrion’s appearance in handcuffs in the trailer. “I can’t possibly comment about that,” the actress says. “I think it’s just a nice little bracelet he’s got going on. It’s a nice accessory.”

• “Season 3 was a bit more difficult for me,” Alfie Allen acknowledges in a red carpet interview with Access Hollywood. “As an actor it was draining. It was good though, it was an experience. Season 4, you just have to wait and see. There’s definitely a lot more going on in the eyes than anything else.”

• On Jon leaving Ygritte behind at the end of season 3, Kit Harington told PopSugar on the red carpet, “He fell in love last season and had to betray the woman he loved. This season she’s constantly on his mind and you’ll see that hopefully. He’s not one to go and talk about his emotions or women or what he felt so he doesn’t, but hopefully you’ll see that he didn’t take it lightly. It’s not easy for him.”

• In this video interview, Alfie Allen touches on the aftereffects of filming such a dark storyline, and what happens when he gets recognized as THAT guy from Game of Thrones.

• Non-SAG Bonus: At the Game Of Thrones soirée at the Sundance Film Festival, Hannah Murray talked about Gilly’s future now that the wildling woman’s no longer on the run beyond the Wall. Murray says of season 4, “There’s an amazing episode that… focuses on the Night’s Watch that was incredible to be a part of.” As for her character’s development this year, she notes, “It’s really interesting to see her in a different environment. We’ve only really seen her…at Craster’s and on the run and when we pick her up in series 4 she’s actually kind of happy and relaxed almost for the first time, which was really interesting for me to play- that character not suffering or running away from anger. It was just interesting to see kind of, a more domestic, peaceful environment. Obviously it doesn’t necessarily last very long. She’s finding her strength, working out what she wants, and really standing up for herself as well so that was great.”
