Maisie Williams and a Red Wedding cake attend Game of Thrones Season 3 DVD Launch Party

WiCnet reader JacMac has already given us her account of the Game of Thrones Season 3 DVD Launch, and now we have a bit more information about the very special Red Wedding cake that was commissioned by HBO, as well as some tidbits from Maisie Williams.

Created by a team of four at Choccywoccydoodah, the cake took over 20 hours to make. Every chocolate sword, dagger, arrow, and delicious blood spatter is masterfully hand-crafted and completely edible. Oh, and there’s also a wedding cake under there somewhere.

“Most of Choccywoccydoodah are avid fans of the series and the idea of creating a cake for this most powerful of all episodes blew us away. We decided to create a slaughtered cake, rather than a red cake, giving us the opportunity to try new techniques, new sculpting methods and new finishes.”

“We also included a cracked shield of the two families in the episode; House of Stark and House of Frey, to symbolise the fact they are now at war.”

Not only were the guests treated to cake, a real life Stark, Maisie Williams, was present to assist in the cutting. The guests were given a sneak preview of the bonus content from the Season 3 Blu-Ray/DVDs, and a preview of Season 4 from Maisie herself. Of her character Arya’s storyline in the upcoming season she revealed: “She means business, her whole family have been ruthlessly taken away from her.” And we can expect some more humor from Arya and the Hound: “Arya and the Hound’s relationship is changing as they start to embrace this love hate relationship, it’s great fun.”
