Alfie Allen on Theon Greyjoy’s Season 3 arc: “He had it coming”
Alfie Allen recently spoke with Zap2it about his character Theon Greyjoy’s woes in Season 3 and his hopes for Season 4.
Theon has not had it easy, spending most of last season locked in a torture chamber with Ramsay Snow, and in Alfie’s opinion, he had it coming. “Without a doubt, he had it coming. I mean, you know, in his defense I always just say that he’s just a very bad decision maker. And, you know, that through whatever reasons they may be that he makes bad decisions, he’s always trying — he’s not trying to be bad, do you know what I mean? He’s just trying to be Theon Greyjoy and this person that he thinks he should be.”
So will Season 4 mark an end to the suffering and see Theon come out the other side as a better person? “We’ll see what happens, but I guess when people get brought down to earth they tend to get humbled. So we’ll see what happens with Theon, but I would say I would hope something like that happens.”
Although Theon and his captor Ramsay are enemies on-screen, Alfie and Iwan Rheon made it a point to become friends when the cameras stopped rolling, which can be a bit strange to the actors and fans alike. “I just thought it was very, very important to try and be friends with him and to not try and be actor-y or just to build a trust between us. Because we were in this situation together as actors — I mean, not as the characters — as actors we’re in this situation of being in a dark room together for long, extended periods of time. And so yeah, we just needed to be friendly I think. And it’s weird.”
“It was weird at first when we’d be in a room doing these horrible things and then we’d go out to dinner in the evening, having a glass of wine, talking about our torture scenes. It was a bit strange at first, but I guess it’s cool, when people do come up to you in the street … they literally cannot get their heads wrapped around the fact that we might be friends. So that is really cool. You know, but we are, we’re very, very good friends.”
