The North Remembers: March 2011
Three years ago we were but a month away from the first ever episode of Game of Thrones coming to our screens.
- We received a long set report from Belfast, courtesy of Westeros.org.
- Speaking of Belfast, the first ever TitanCon was announced that month.
- The first full trailer aired! It was a long one, and aptly named The Game Begins. What a day when that came out! Our first glimpse of the wall, all the action and excitement, but most of all for me the many classic lines and iconic scenes from the books for the first time taking a life of their own on TV. Another trailer hit the web later in March.
- The official poster was revealed. Still my favourite.
- We got some character posters as well. Who will sit the Iron Throne?
- Featurettes for various houses were produced, the promo department pulled all the stops.
- Lots of production photos surfaced as well. The look and the feel of the show was more than promising.
- The first episode got its title. Winter is Coming. So did episode two.
- In anticipation of the show, we played the Maester‘s Path challenges every week. As a grand finale, the food truck campaign hit NYC, and later LA.
- Toward the end of the month some first impressions by journalists lucky enough to see an episode (or two) were coming out. Positive ones!
- Even before the premiere, rumours were swirling of a second season pick-up.
- Some people still doubted the success of the show at that point. Here is how HmR and FaB replied to them.
- This guest editorial compared the fandoms of LoTR and GoT on the eve of this great journey of ours.
- Speaking of our site – we recorded our first podcast together, and the first ever WiC moot was organised in NYC!
- FaBio interviewed Sophie Turner in one of the series of our great exclusive interviews.
