Game of Thrones Season 4 ratings speculation

It is time again! Time for us number nuts to look at some pretty graphs, enjoy the visualisation of the success that is Game of Thrones, and for GeekFurious to simply go nuts.

The graph below compares the viewership ratings of a number of premium cable shows over their first four seasons. This time around, another show joins the ranks for comparison, namely GoT’s successful HBO sister show True Detective. (There is so much data that the graph is getting quite small, but you can of course simply click on it for a larger version.) As always: All viewer numbers refer to the first airing only, and the graphs of longer or shorter seasons have been scaled to correspond to the 10-episode run of Game of Thrones.

Hear Me Roar: While not the only or the most important metric, the first airing viewership is one that is consistently and easily accessible, and allows us to the track the trends and the success of Thrones from season to season. What are your predictions this year?

I dare say that a certain big event in ‘The Rains of Castamere’ last season and all the ruckus it caused attracted fresh viewers and that the total viewership of the show has thus grown between seasons. Will that be reflected in the premiere night ratings already? Time will tell, but I think we can break that 6 million mark this season, perhaps sooner rather than later. There is a lot of juicy material in S4 that will not leave the viewers disappointed.
