Welcome once again to the Player of Thrones.
Player of Thrones posts will be utilized to highlight new characters from HBO’s Game of Thrones, and also return to some familiar faces.
I encourage you to discuss what role you think this character plays in the Game of Thrones. If you do choose to talk about the character with spoilers, please remember to use our spoiler veil of magic.
With that being said our third feature is double. This week we will be featuring a dangerous brother sister combo we met last year, Jojen and Meera Reed.
Meera and Jojen Reed: The Huntress and The GreenseerClose your eyes. Free your mind. Let your body go. The world is dark. No contrast, no color, no life. Your mind is shrouded by the darkness that engulfs it. Silence with only one sound the slowing beat of your heart. Continue to listen to the rhythm of millions and millions of your cells are pushed and pulled through your body. Bump….Bump Bump….Bump Bump…
A small speck appears. It is a faint light pure white in color. Bump…bump bump….It bounces in a pattern from left to right left to right…Bump Bump…Bump Bump…The blood in your veins still pushing and pulling through your body. Left right…left right…Bump Bump…
Then you notice a sudden change in the pattern of the white speck left left…right…left left right…bump bump…the speck starts to grow in size…bump bump bump…..you feel your blood start to push harder and pull faster. Bump bump bump….bump bump bump….as the white dot get’s bigger two more dots appear the bigger black dot….bump bump bump…right right right…left right….then a familiar scent fills your mind…it’s life…bump bump…it’s the smell of red hot sweat….its the stink of mud and grime….it’s the fresh intake of the rain falling all around you…bump bump bump…bump bump…as the the specks grow two more above the bigger of the three appears as well…left right right left right left….hard right….straight….bump bump BUMP….
You’re now close enough to the light to picture some detail…more colors appear….on the two bottom dots are pink…on the big one in the middle are three specks of red that continue to produce more and more red spots behind it…BUMP bump BUMP….You can now taste what you have been smelling…you taste death…fear…hate…blood…not your own but the blood of the white spot ahead of you. Left…hard left…down a hill….under a large root….right around the trunk…BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP…
You let out a grunt…no it was a growl…you can taste it…you know that this is the difference between you living and you dying. You must eat… You can see the rabbit tiring missing steps…slipping…you dig your claws into the ground increasing your speed….BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP……You leap forward in a last chance effort to catch your life…..BIGHT! Kill…the taste of warm red fills your mouth…you breathe in heavy and breathe out lighter. The rabbit struggles…you bight harder it struggles more….just the blood itself gives your more energy….your ears fill with the surrounding noises of night…BUMP BUMP Bump…bump bump bump. The struggle begins to fade. As the rabbit’s life begins to fade your life grows….you will live…bump bump bump….bump bump…no more shall this this rabbit struggle. You have now the chance to lower your catch to the ground. No movement…only the red pouring from the wounds you have inflicted to this rabbit. No remorse…no guilt….you are alive…and you have food that is all that matters…as you dive in the food is welcome…after you finish your meal you look down and lick your claws. You finish cleaning the blood off of your fur in time to be interrupted by a black winged menace. An ugly crow with three eyes. He warned you about this vision. He warned you to pay attention. bump bump…Bump BUMP BUMP….BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP…
Everything starts to melt…as you wake…you were hunting again…but not as your human self but rather in the skin of your Direwolf…
You awake confused. What does the dream mean? What does the three eye’d raven represent? If only you had someone who could help you interpret your dreams…luckily enough we already met them…
Back in season three after our Young Stark pups had escaped a burning Winterfell, we were introduced to two new characters, Jojen and Meera Reed, the son and older daughter of Howland Reed. The Reeds are from Greywater Watch, the southernmost castle of the North. It is impossible to send a raven to this hold because it is constantly moving. The Reeds have a long history with the Starks and their loyalty has never been in question.
Greywater Watch is located along the region of Westeros called The Neck, or the swampland and river lands that separate the North from the rest of the continent. The people of Greywater Watch are known as Crannogmen, or swamp people. These people are very talented hunters and warriors. Their culture is different. They are fishermen and froggers. They utilize Guerrilla tactics as opposed to more honorable fighting styles.
The Crannogmen began the long alliance with the Starks thousands of years ago when The King of the North defeated The Marsh King and took his daughter for a wife. Now they are ruled by the House of Reed from Greywater Watch.
House Reed’s words are unknown at this point but their House Sigil is Vert, a black lizzard-lion on a field of grey green. See below!
Jojen Greendreaming
Jojen, son of Howland, was always a special boy. He was born with the power of greensight, which allows him to dream visions of forthcoming events. When Jojen was younger he almost died of an intense fever but pulled through. It was said through this sickness he almost died and somehow, still to be revealed, was given the power of greensight. He is a weak boy due to the sickness and toll the green dreams take upon him however he has a great ally in his sister Meera, a highly dangerous huntress.
The Fierce Huntress
Meera is the older sister of Jojen. She is gifted with the power of entangling her prey with a net and ending them with a three pronged spear. She can fish and hunt…and now knows how to properly skin a rabbit…Thank you Osha! Meera protects her brother and is his physical strength.
Together they have come to support Bran with his Journey North of the Wall.
The advantages they bring to Bran:
-Jojen seems to know what he is talking about with Bran’s Warging and Skinchanging powers. He is great advisor for Bran who is not sure how to handle these powers and also can help him interpret any visions or dreams Bran may have.
-Jojen has visions himself that help play into guiding Bran.
-Meera is a skilled hunter. This makes her good at helping to defend the two weak boys with Hodor, but also she is great for finding, trapping, and killing food.
-Meera knows how to handle Jojen and his visions. If they get out of hand she can calm him down and keep Jojen from hurting himself.
-They are from a House we know is loyal to House Stark. Hopefully no betrayal here.
What role do you believe Jojen and Meera play into the Game of Thrones? Do you feel Howland is looking to get his hands on or close to the Iron Throne to have it for himself? Or does he just happen to have the best intentions for the Starks and help them on an epic adventure of Redemption. Discuss below!
Fellow writer Bex had a great suggestion to include IMDB Profiles for the Actors who play the characters featured. I don’t argue with her:
