Inside the Episode: The Mountain and the Viper

In this week’s Inside the Episode showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss take us behind the scenes of “The Mountain and the Viper” for a closer look at Sansa’s decision to save Littlefinger using all of the lessons he’s taught her, and becoming the only person who is one step ahead of the ultimate schemer. They also discuss Ramsay’s achievements proving himself as a worthy successor in the eyes of his father Roose Bolton, and Jorah’s secrets poisoning his relationship with Daenerys. Being faced with his imminent end, Tyrions thoughts drift away to memories that resonate with his current situation as he searches for meaning, and Oberyn’s uncompromising nature causes him to make a fatal mistake while waiting for his confession.

A shorter bonus video features a lot of behind the scenes footage as the Game of Thrones Weapons Masters, Stunt Coordinators, and Armorers detail how the trial by combat came together. They discuss Pedro Pascal’s training to learn the Wushu inspired Dornish style of fighting, the contrast between the Red Viper and The Mountain down to their weaponry, and the actors brilliant performances.

Emilia Clarke and Iain Glen discuss Daenerys’ decision to exile the only person she once believed she could trust, who had been there for her since her conception through the fire, as the one piece of history Jorah had been afraid of caught up with him.

George R.R. Martin discusses Sansa Stark’s transformation from a piece in someone else’s game, to a player.
