Kit Harington on Jon Snow’s meeting with a King, and Melisandre’s intentions

When Stannis Barathron arrived in the North with his newly acquired army, not only did he force the Wildlings to surrender, he caused storylines to collide. Politics have come to a once isolated Castle Black, which now houses the One True King and actual protecter of the realm, while Melisandre has set her sights on another high born bastard.

Kit Harington spoke with Access Hollywood about finally getting to work with cast members from another part of the Seven Kingdoms, Jon Snow meeting a King, and that telling look between Jon and Melisandre.

Having worked with many of the same faces since early in the show’s first season, having an entirely different part of the Thrones cast at The Wall took a bit of getting used to.

“It was really f***ing weird, actually — Stephen and Carice and Liam just being there on set in Episode 10 and having this kind of presence from another part of the show invade our part.”

Jon was the first to meet with the new arrivals, and was able to quickly gain the trust of their King by revealing who his father was. Although he addresses Stannis as ‘you grace,’ Kit says that Jon doesn’t see Stannis as his leader.

“It’s a really interesting power play moment. You haven’t seen Jon come across a king before, and it’s interesting to see how he deals with it. He’s asked by Tormund, ‘Is that your King?’ And he says to Tormund, ‘I don’t have a King,’ and I think that’s Jon through and through. He’s part of the Night’s Watch and he’ll refer to Stannis as, ‘your grace,’ but he’s a brother of the Night’s Watch. He isn’t led by anyone.”

We’ll find out how long Stannis and company plan on staying at Castle Black in Season 5, but we already know that Melisandre has set her sights on Jon Snow.

“There’s a great moment where Jon and Melisandre lock eyes over a fire and you know that that’s gonna be a big part of Season 5 – like how they interact, what their storyline is. She’s, for some reason, obsessed with bastard-born children – high-born children — and Jon doesn’t come any higher born or bastard [born], so I think there’s going to be a relationship there.”
