Israel being scouted as a possible location for Game of Thrones season 5
The expansive production of Game of Thrones may be even more global in season 5, if the latest reports bear fruit.
According to a report on an Israeli site, recently representatives from the show have been visiting Timna Park, located near the city of Eilat in Israel, with an eye for this year’s filming. HBO’s scouts are apparently interested in the red stone formations and mountains of the valley and its desert setting.
The report makes passing reference to several other desert spots being scouted, including nearby Aqaba and Petra, Jordan. At current time, however, no final choices have been announced.
Ours is the Fury: Though the desert settings may also work for Dany’s continued Meereen storyline, the hunt for red stone mountains seems to point towards another location hunt for Dorne. The Red Mountains of Dorne separate the region from the rest of Westeros and could be used as a backdrop in season 5.
UPDATE 7/3: An unnamed source has confirmed to us that the report from Israel is completely false and that Game of Thrones will not be filming in Israel for season 5. False alarm!
