Meet your new WiC editor, Andrea Towers
Hi everyone!
I’m Andrea Towers, and I’m super happy–like Sansa Stark eating lemon cakes happy–to join the WiC.net team as an Assistant Editor.
Although I was an avid fantasy and sci-fi reader as a child, it took until the TV adaptation for me to fully find and embrace A Song of Ice and Fire. Of course, once I started dabbling into the world, I was completely sold. Complex characters? Fantasy settings? Dragons? I quickly latched onto the entire universe and soon started become fascinated with everything that makes Game of Thrones the story we know and love. I devoured the books, plowing through A Storm of Swords (my favorite) in less than three weeks, anxiously reading whenever I could – at work, before bed, on my commute. As the television series progressed, the show caused me to fall in love with the characters even more than I already had. I think it goes without saying that being able to join this world in a professional capacity is a dream for me both as a writer and a fan.
If you need a bit more background on me, well: I received my Masters in Journalism from Northwestern University last year (so yes, GRRM and I share an alum connection.) I’ve also been writing professionally for several years, running my own television website Confessions Of A TV Geek, as well as freelancing for various entertainment outlets. Recently came off a stint at Entertainment Weekly, where, among my many duties, I was the primary recapper for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Along with the legendary James Hibberd, I imparted my knowledge about Game of Thrones and helped curate some fun interviews (Rory McCann was both a delight and an experience I soon won’t forget.) I’m Lannister proud, though I don’t discriminate, and appreciate all of Westeros’ many houses.
When I began my foray into the Game of Thrones fanbase, WiC.net was one of the first websites I turned to thanks to the wealth of information and the accuracy in which it reported everything from news to interviews to reviews. My job will primarily be focused on bringing you all the cool interviews and features that you want to see, and as I begin my time here, I hope to do two things. From a fan perspective, I hope to add my voice with some fun contributions, and from a critical perspective, I hope to share some insightful commentary. Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg–I’ll be working closely with Rowan and Ani to ensure that we brings you all the content you want and need. On that note, if there’s anything you want to see, or anything you would like me to take on, please drop me a line here or on twitter and let me know!
