Undead Lannisters to chase Doctor Who star in Pride And Prejudice And Zombies

Deadline is reporting that Game Of Thrones stars Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) and Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) are joining the cast of the literature/horror mashup film Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. They’ll be joining Matt Smith, who recently left Doctor Who, as well as Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston and Downton Abbey’s Lily James.

It’s unclear who will be cast in which roles, so whether Tywin Lannister is biting The Doctor or vice versa is unclear, but suffice it to say, someone’s fanfiction is going to be coming to life. Deadline is also reporting that Screen Gems has acquired the rights to United States distribution of the film.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies was written by Seth Graeme-Smith initially published in 2009, and received both popular and critical acclaim for successfully combining the tropes of zombie stories with Austen’s characters and style, and was expected to be turned into a movie fairly quickly. As time has gone by, the “famous novel with monster movie mashup” idea has turned into a genre, and not a terribly well-loved one, so this film may have missed its chance at the zeitgeist. Still, by casting strong, geek-friendly actors, the producers are giving it a chance to find an audience.
