Video Roundup: An elegant animated summary, also, bastards, and wine
This was a good week for Game Of Thrones fan videos. Here’s a quick roundup of the ones we saw, including an epic animated short and two (count ’em!) supercuts of some of the show’s favorite subjects: alcohol and illegitimate children.
First, an animation team known as Blackmeal crafted this piece, a fluid visual mixtape of some of the show’s iconic moments. Watch Bran’s fateful fall, Dany’s conquest of Meereen, the Red Wedding and more, all beautifully animated and set to the instrumental version of “The Rains of Castamere” (called “A Lannister Always Pays His Debts” on the Season 3 soundtrack). As the video says, “#gotseason5 is coming,” as if we needed more hype.

Next up: booze!
What’s at the bottom of your wine goblet? If you’re a character in Game Of Thrones, it’s probably more wine. This cheeky supercut by The Movie Maniacs keeps a running total of wine glasses consumed by house as it marathons its way through four seasons of drowned sorrows. You probably won’t be surprised by who comes out on top, but there are plenty of other interesting drinking trends to notice as well. (For example, see how long it takes for Daenerys Targaryen, The Unburnt, Mother of Dragons, etc., to take a sip on-screen.)
Game Of Thrones is set in a fantasy world loosely based on medieval Europe, so it’s no surprise that a lot of characters talk about lineage and inheritance regularly. So the word “bastard” gets spoken a lot (usually in the context of “did you know Jon Snow is Ned Stark’s bastard?”). Reddit user eggwood24 took a video originally posted by Reginald_Martin–a 7-minute piece placing each “bastard” into context–and sliced it down to a mere 52-seconds of people saying “bastard”. By the time you’re done watching either one, the word “bastard” will no longer sound like a real word, but Jon Snow will probably still be Ned Stark’s bastard in the eyes of the world.
