Grey Lady ghost possibly sighted at Game of Thrones filming site
Do you believe in ghosts, Miss Stark? Gordon Watson, an Irish photographer, was out snapping photos at the Dark Hedges in Stranocum, County Antrim; when he processed one of them, he was greeted with the above image, which he believes is the Irish ghost known as the Grey Lady. The Dark Hedges have been used in Game of Thrones as the backdrop for the Kingsroad, notably in the Season 2 premiere as Arya and Gendry made their ill-fated journey north towards The Wall.
After the jump, learn a little more about the photo, and the myth of the Grey Lady…
According to local legends, the Grey Lady haunts the road winding between the beech trees. Questions about her origin vary; some say she is the ghost of a maid who died in mysterious circumstances years ago, while others believe her to be a lost spirit from a hidden, abandoned graveyard somewhere in the area. On Halloween night, these forgotten graves open and the tormented souls join the Grey Lady on her winding walkabout.
In any case, Kevin McAuley, another local photographer, swears that the photo is genuine (meaning it hasn’t been digitally enhanced, for example). He also says that “this is the only known version ever to have been recorded in any fashion.”
