Postcards from Dorne: Leftover Props

Filming from Sevilla was a mainly locked-down affair, as the production used the gates and wall of the Alcázar to their advantage, keeping prying eyes away from spoiling the new setting for Season 5. But one of our enterprising Dornish tourists managed to get a few pictures from the inside. Taken the morning after filming ended, these pictures of not-yet-struck props and set dressing give us a glimpse of what it will look like in Dorne.

These pictures come to us from Martin Regan and his Game of Tapas blog.

Martin has several pictures of himself with cast members on his page, including this one of Alexander Siddig, who’s playing Doran Martell.

A lot of the set dressing seems to be augmentation. There was already some ivy growing. The production just added to it.

Likewise, there were already trees. But one of the details from the books talks about how Doran Martell loves his lemon trees. This is a shot of a tree that was already part of the garden, with added plastic lemons.

In addition to adding lemons, they also added more plants. Here we have the extra foliage from the Dornish Gardens waiting to be packed up on the trucks.

We’ve seen some shots of the Alcázar that explain why it was chosen for Dorne, but one of my complaints early on was that this was supposed to be a Water Garden, and I didn’t see much water. This shot isn’t the best, but it’s of the Alcázar baths, which are visible through windows out into the garden.

This shot of the Mercury Fountain, one of the Garden’s main water features, will probably also be heavily featured. (Though they might CGI over the frescos.)

More augmentation–real lemon tree from the grounds, but the lemons are all added props.

We’ve seen shots of the garden  mazes before, but I just love the way the sunshine looks in this shot. One gets the sense Dorne is going to be shot a bit like an idyllic dream, sequestered away from all the insanity and bloodshed we’ve seen elsewhere in Westeros.

Let us know if you’ve been traveling in Westeros or Essos and have pictures! Send a raven.
