Game of Thrones nominated for 2015 Producer’s Guild of America Award

Winter has arrived, and along with it, awards season. This week, the Producer’s Guild of America announced their first round of nominations for their 26th Annual Awards ceremony, and Game of Thrones was on the list. Like many groups, their announcements come in two rounds, with their Movie categories nominations waiting until next month in order to include movies released on an Oscarbait timetable. The categories announced this week covered from Documentary Motion Pictures to Television Series/Specials and Digital Series nominees.

The Game of Thrones producing team David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, plus Bernadette Caulfield, Frank Doelger, Chris Newman, Greg Spence, and Carolyn Strauss are once again up for The Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television. This is their fourth consecutive nomination. The PGA Awards has consistently recognized the quality of the work done on the series, having nominated them every year for  this award since the show began airing back in 2011. (Season 1 was nominated for the 2012 PGA Award.)

But when it comes time to actually name a winner, the voters in the Guild haven’t yet seen fit to give the prize to the fantasy series. Over the course of the last three years, Game of Thrones has been beaten by the likes of Boardwalk Empire, Homeland and Breaking Bad. This year, the competition includes less venerable series like Netflix’s House of Cards and HBO’s True Detective…but Breaking Bad is still nominated.

Will this finally be the year Game of Thrones get recognized? We’ll find out when the winners are announced on January 24th in Los Angeles at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Here is the full list of who Benioff, Weiss and company are up against.
