A Game of Thrones Gift Guide: “Know who you are, wear it like armor”

For our second installment of the Game of Thrones Gift Guide, we’re looking at wearables!. Etsy’s got a load of options for wearable items, from subtle jewelry options only other hardcore fans would recognize to loud and proud tee shirts, like the one above by WornByGeeks. There’s also some clothing options–both in the straight cosplay arena to the more creative stuff.

There are tons of “Hodor” -Hodor quote tees for sale out there. Why not be a little different and go for a Game of Thrones mashup with Mr. Men, and wear Mr. Hodor? Two references in one. Another shirt that’s everywhere “You Know Nothing Jon Snow.” It’s a little bit on the expected side. Why not go a little less accusatory and just apologize for being in the Night’s Watch? (It’s more classy than Crows before Hoes anyway.) If you really want to single out Jon Snow, there’s always the full Stark family tee, with Jon’s name in white at the end.

If you’re the type to nerd out your kids before they’re old enough to form their own opinions, there’s also lots of options. You can decide what house your child is in with items like this Baby Stark onesie, but I always think it’s more polite to have a matching adult around, and so apparently does Spunky Stork. Besides, who doesn’t want everyone to think their baby is secretly a dragon?

If you’re looking for something shinier than a t-shirt, how about some jewelry? There are a few replica options: You to can accidentally bring the poison to the next wedding you attend with SparklingFantasies‘ recreation of Sansa’s strangler necklace, or, if you’re looking for something a little more evil-esque, ChimericalDragonfly has Melisandre chokers (leeches and bastard sons of kings not included.) Margaery Tyrell’s Growing Strong necklace is also available, if you don’t mind Grandmother grumbling about what a terrible motto it is. If you’re really brave, you can go for the stag crown and breastplate. Just we aware the last few kings who have tried to claim it haven’t had very good luck.

In the “inspired by” category, Dany’s dragon tooth necklace is very popular. My favorite variation is the one by BijouxMalou, which can be worn in a variety of ways. If this is a little too obvious for your everyday wear though, there’s other options. SunandStarsforYou has a selection of charm bracelets and worked metal pendants. I’m partial to the “Dracarys” bracelet. There’s also tons of different pendants, including the astrolabe image from the credits, different House Sigils, and dragons eggs in nearly every color imaginable. Just don’t drop them in the fire.

For the book nerd, there are tons of pendants with quotes from the books inside., I’m partial to the Khaleesi pendant thanks to its simplicity. But there’s tons of other options, including Tyrion quotes, Jorah quotes, a quote for book lovers, and of course, what we say to death. If you’re less into words and more into pictures, there’s also a variety of map pendants–I’m partial to the ones big enough to show more of Westeros.

Finally, there’s full on cosplay outfits. Though many of them are made for male or female characters, not everything is so easily gendered. This Lannister doublet is designed for him, and this Sansa gown is designed for her, but the outfit above is not so demanding. Though it is billed as a “Jon Snow’s outfit,” it’s also labeled unisex: we’re in a modern enough era that anyone can take the black. If you’re not looking for a full outfit, just a few accessories, there’s always a nice set of vambraces, or Dany’s handwraps from when she was in the Dothraki Sea.

Last, but not least, there’s the clothing that’s inspired by Game of Thrones. Many of these, like the skirt above, include the designer creating their own prints, like this Map of Westeros Skirt. My personal favorite, from Frockasaurus, which was this House Sigil print dress has sadly been discontinued. But there’s other stuff. SweetheartsStitches has House Sigil scarves that are fabulous. Iamknight has some modern day hoodie armor that has to be seen to be believed. (Their shop was nominated for Geekie’s Fashion Award this past summer.) And for the shoe lover, there’s the answer to the all important question: “Who Will Step Into The Iron Shoe?”

A note from last week’s gift guide–we featured a cute card as part of our Holiday collection–albeit one with Arya’s name misspelled. Well the shop owner got in touch with us, and let us know there there’s a new run of cards out, now with all Starks spelled properly.
