WiCnet Awards: And the winner of Best Actress in Season 4 is…
…Maisie Williams, as Arya Stark! This is Maisie’s second Best Actress WiCnet award, after she won in Season 2, and her second this year after winning Best Performance as a Youth. Michelle Fairley won in Season 3, although Williams finished second even then.
We’ve written a lot on Williams in this awards cycle–unsurprisingly, she’s one of our favorites too. Here’s what our Small Council said about her:
“…we fans of Arya would very much like to make her into the badass hero we could root for through thick and thin— the plucky girl whose sword quenches our thirst for vengeance and whose big heart warms ours. But Maisie Williams’ unflinching portrayal never lets us forget that Arya can’t be that girl. No one can.” –Yi Li
Check some more, and the final results, after the jump….
“Maisie has grown up so much since the show began, and that maturation has carried itself into her portrayal of Arya. When she stands over the Hound’s bleeding body, with that hard look in her face, I can’t help but be reminded of the cheeky girl who once showed up her brother Bran at archery, who playfully and carefully chased cats around the capital city…” – Cameron White
And me, from her award for Best Performance as a Youth:
“You can see the girlishness fade into darkness in the climactic scene of Arya’s story. Maisie Williams shows near-total excitement at seeing Gwendoline Christie’s Brienne of Tarth in full armor, but that excitement is always restrained—and slowly turns into total distrust as the conversation turns. The excited child and the betrayed adolescent are both readily apparent in Williams’ acting.”
The vote was close–Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister gave it a good run–but the category, once again, belonged to Maisie Williams.
