The Raven brings The Sight again, in the same fleeting format
Did it work for you? Last time The Sight came (a couple of days ago) it didn’t work on my handheld device, and kept insisting I turn on my audio, which was not only on, but all the way up.
This time, it did work, after a long two minutes of thinking about it. So that’s one improvement. What we saw–or maybe think we saw–below.
Of course, there’s no video for us to embed, and after only a fleeting set of glimpses it’s hard to tell what I saw. Most of it looked to be repurposed Season 4 footage, one or two clips from the original Arya teaser that launched the site, including the black and white doors. Added to that was a longer or maybe different glimpse of Ice right before it was melted down, and Oberyn before he died, and a couple of other things that went by too fast for me to catch properly.
Commenters, please add what you saw, or think you saw below, and let us know if and when a video of this hits the web.
Personally, I find this very frustrating. HBO is clearly going for a “fleeting moment” of ephemeral media, that sites like SnapChat popularized, and places like CNN are declaring “the future of media.” I don’t know if HBO thinks they’re successfully doing viral video or what the plan is.
See, they can’t be viral videos. Because you can’t watch them over and over and rack up a million views, because there’s only one shot and it’s done. Of all the things I would think you wouldn’t want to use ephemeral media for, it’s a trailer for a hotly anticipated show with rabid a fanbase who want to watch the clip over and over and obsess on it. That was part of the anger we saw from fans on Monday with the other trailer, was not just their inability to watch, but their inability to watch over and over. But apparently that distress and anger from the fans didn’t register with HBO, since they are continuing to release teasers this way instead of the far more sensible way of YouTube.
This post will be updated with the video when we can get it, and a breakdown of what we see.
UPDATE: Commenter Lily Ivvy Rose has a recording below. The shots are, in order:
- Arya practicing her dancing on the hill (Season 4)
- Arya and The Hound walking up the hill (Season 4)
- A sword, which I’m pretty sure is Ice, just before it was reforged (Season 4)
- A dying girl on a cross on the road to Meereen (Season 4)
- The Three Eyed Crow (Standard Issue)
- Oberyn and Ellaria Sand, just before he died (Season 4)
- A beach at night (Season 5)
- The Black and White Doors (Season 5)
UPDATE 2: Commenter Joe notes that he saw a very different version, suggesting that there are multiple videos being delivered to fans.
