Fencing & Archery Create Public Transit System For Westeros
They’re not the first to imagine a public transit system for this heavily traveled, but modern convenience deprived continent of Westeros, but they are the most thorough. Fencing&Archery, a Brooklyn based Etsy shop have turned out the most detailed concept for the biggest public works project ever taken during the height of the summer years. The design is (of course) based on the New York Subway system. Clearly, the system came together much like that one did, with many smaller locals lines brought together (not unlike the Seven Kingdoms) to form one large public transit system. We must assume Littlefinger has been magically finding money to maintain this monstrosity for god knows how many seasons. (Can you image the amount of upkeep for the Iron Islands segments alone?) In fact, if we take this rail line into our calculations, it’s no wonder Tyrion had so much trouble keeping the King’s Landing budget balanced, especially if he wasn’t willing to raise fares.
The full system, below.
The irony of the main hub of the rail passing through that damn Inn at the Crossroads would not be lost on any bookreader, though one would think that a more walkable main street community with commercial density, mixed use development and first floor retail would spring up around so much public transit. Considering we haven’t spent a lot of time in Dorne, it’s amazing how many stops they have on the Tan line, suggesting that at one point their relationship with the Targaryens was good enough that serious money flowed south of the Stormlands border. Also, I assume that there must be some security protocol that keeps just anyone from passing through the Bloody Gate up to the Eyrie. (Perhaps the line ends with a series of sky gondolas, similar to the Roosevelt Island Tramway?)
CityLab at The Atlantic has a full breakdown of the map that I can’t begin to do justice to, and I encourage everyone to check out. They’re certainly right about one thing: The Twins should have been on the Red Line.
