Game of Thrones nominated for an Art Directors Guild Award

Game of Thrones has had two episodes from Season 4 nominated for this year’s Art Directors Guild Award. The ADG Excellence in Production Design Awards have been given out since the mid-1990s, with a particular focus on period and fantasy films. They added recognizing Excellence in Television in 2000.

This is the first year Thrones will be nominated in a new category, the “One Hour Period or Fantasy Single Camera Series.” It is also the first time it will have two episodes listed in the nomination.

The ADG Awards have recognized Game of Thrones every year since it has been on the air, nominating it up until now in their “One Hour Single Camera Television Series” category. (The new “Period or Fantasy” category the show is nominated in this year represents an expansion of their television awards division.) The show won in both 2013 and 2014. Production designer Gemma Jackson took the award for her work on “The Ghost of Harrenhal” in Season 2 and “Valar Dohaeris” in Season 3. She was also nominated in 2012 for Season 1’s “A Golden Crown” but lost to Boardwalk Empire. This year Debra Riley, who replaced Jackson at the beginning of Season 4’s production, is nominated for both “The Laws of Gods and Men” and “The Mountain and The Viper.”
