Another visit to Cushing Library reveals interesting original A Game of Thrones manuscript find

Game of Thrones exhibit at Cushing Library – Deeper than Swords

Reddit user _honeybird has once before gifted us all by chronicling her visit to the Cushing Library on the Texas A&M campus, in her journey through the George R.R. Martin manuscripts. Her much ballyhooed first visit yielded the debunking of a very popular, albeit fading fan theory. And her second visit was just as amazing.

Honeybird’s latest trip wasn’t so much a rare manuscript find, although there is more about what she did come across, later. But rather, it was the glorious pictures she was able to take of the Game of Thrones / ASOIAF weaponry, that came to Cushing as part of the Deeper than Swords exhibit.

On her Reddit account, Honeybird posted what she found…and I am completely envious.

“I went back to Cushing today! I got partway through the AGOT manuscript (more about that later) and I took a bunch of pictures of the replica weapons in the collection.”

Honeybird took several pictures, which included a House Stark shield.

While these photos are amazingly awesome in their own right, Honeybird did have one last nugget to report from her second trip to Cushing Library:

“This time, I wanted to go slower and really look for differences between the first draft and the final version, so I went a LOT slower. As a result, I only got through the first 200ish pages before it was time to pack up and go home. I’m going to make a comprehensive post about the whole thing when I’m done, but I did find one potentially significant change today that I’m too excited to keep to myself.

Daenerys does not get dragon eggs as a wedding gift. There is no mention of dragon eggs in any shape or form in Daenerys II. The only gifts she receives are her handmaids, the books from Jorah, the weapons from the bloodriders, and the silver horse from Drogo. That’s it. I am DYING to find out when and how the dragon eggs come into play. I can’t wait to see what kind of tinfoil theories this inspires over the weekend.”

So, in the original A Game of Thrones manuscript, Dany does not get her dragon eggs as a wedding gift. As Honeybird points out, I cannot wait to see when and how they came into play.

What do think of Honeybird’s second trip to Cushing Library? How about the Dany and her eggs bit? Let’s talk about it, in the comments below.
