Amanda Peet was originally not keen on Game of Thrones
Amanda Peet, wife of director David Benioff, is on her own press tour currently for the HBO show Togetherness. Unfortunately for her, she’s discovering that much like when anyone who is directly (or in her case indirectly) involved with Game of Thrones, it is all anyone wants to talk about.
I originally overlooked E!’s interview with Peet on Thrones in yesterday’s post, as she’s not actually privy to the inner workings of the show. She’s not part of filming, she’s not really going to know much. And though I thought host Maria Menounos was a little over the top in grilling her for Season 5 details when it was clear she would rather discuss her own project, I also thought it wasn’t all that surprising. Togetherness is garnering critical acclaim, but it’s not that cultural juggernaut her husband has helped turn Martin’s series into. Besides Peet was a good sport, talking about how worried she gets that a character has been killed off, like when she ran into Kit Harington late last year in LA instead of in Belfast.
But apparently the questions are starting to get to her. Last night on Conan she admitted she was extremely dubious of the entire project at first. Video, after the jump.
Oof, “Dungeons and Dragons, but with real people.” Them’s some fighting words in the nerd community, and the fans of the show in the audience clearly didn’t appreciate it. Conan, being a smooth host, manged to turn it around, pointing out that most pitches sound lame the first time you hear them. She also gives the audience the tidbit that Season 6 is already in the process of being story boarded, as production rolls full steam ahead.
It’s still a slightly unfortunate admission for her, and probably won’t help stem the tide of Game of Thrones questions she’ll continue to get through out the Togetherness tour. (In fact, it will probably make them slightly worse, as less scrupulous people see if she’ll dig herself another hole.) Personally, even though I’m as hungry as the next fan for Thrones news, I hope more people ask her about her own project and leave the GoT questions for the cast and directors.
