Season 5 speculation: What will each episode’s title be?

Speculation about Game of Thrones Season 5 is quite literally everywhere. From every corner of the internet, to talk shows, and even at my dentist’s office, where the dental assistant wanted to discuss with me, the intrinsic nature of dragons being locked away in a vault, compared to that of one who is freely flying around, eating sheep and probably people, at will.

Season 5 is not that far off (April 12th), and said speculation tends to increase in pace and nature, rather exponentially, as the days tick down to the premiere. With that being said, I’ve been part of a very interesting and thought provoking thread over at Reddit’s /r/Gameofthrones, where the speculation of Season 5’s episode titles are being discussed.

It’s your move (Game of Thrones) episode speculation

Reddit user Oriolesmagic95 posted a thread that was started over at Westeros.org, in which the titles of each of the 10 episodes of Season 5, were speculated. Now, obviously, we don’t know what the titles will be, as that bit of information has not been released.

Oriolesmagic95’s list looks like this:

  • 5×01: Valonqar (Cersei’s Dream)
  • 5×02: No One (Arya needs to become “No One” at the HoBaW)
  • 5×03: Seven-Pointed Star (Faith Millitant is reborn)
  • 5×04: Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken (Jaime and Bronn arrive in Dorne)
  • 5×05: The Sorrows (Tyrion and Jorah float into the Sorrows) A Heart of Stone would be a great name IF LS makes her entrance here
  • 5×06: Hear Me Roar (Cersei is arrested)
  • 5×07: Sons of the Harpy (Tension’s escalating in Meereen)
  • 5×08: A Feast for Crows (Hardhome)
  • 5×09: A Dance with Dragons (Daznak’s Pit)
  • 5×10: Winter (Pink Letter)

I agree with Episode 1. “Valonqar” would be an excellent title, especially since we know that the flashback will have to do with Cersei and Maggy the Frog.

For Episode 2, I would stay in the same wheelhouse as “No One”, but would simply call it “The House of Black and White”.

Episode 3 should be called “High Sparrow”, especially if we are introduced to the new High Septon. This would be the perfect title to introduce Jonathan Pryce, in that role.

If Jaime is going to be featured Dorne, in Episode 4, then I would go with “Sandsnakes”. This would be the perfect episode to introduce the late Prince Oberyn’s daughters.

I’m not on board with what Oriolesmagic95 is thinking Episode 5 will be. I’m not convinced that we will get to see Tyrion and Jorah go through The Sorrows, in Season 5. Especially if there has been zero word about Griff and the folks of the Shy Maid. No, I think if we are going to see Jorah and Tyrion meet before they head into Meereen, then it will be in the slave-market. Having said that, I am going with “Pale Mare” for Episode 5.

I think that if Cersei is going to have her walk of shame in Episode 6, then why not call it “Atonement”, for that is what that type of punishment is actually called.

I really like “Sons of the Harpy” for Episode 7. I would really love to see some Brazen Beasts in this episode, as well.

If Jon Snow is at Hardhome for Episode 8, then I would rather call that episode “Lord Commander”. Now, I’m not at all sure when we will see Jon Snow be elected to that position, but we know that Kit Harington has said that he spent more time on set, than any of the of the other actors. Episode 8 would be the perfect time to introduce him in the role of the 998th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. I’m not 100% convinced we won’t see Jon elected before Episode 8, and if that happens, then “A Feast for Crows” would be acceptable.

I think Episode 9 should be the “The Pink Letter”. I’m switching Oriolsmagic95’s list around here. And, if there has been no sighting of Kevan Lannister since Season 2, then “Daggers in the Dark” would only apply to the possibility of the ending of Jon’s chapter in A Dance with Dragons. I could be wrong, and I often am, but I just don’t see that happening in Season 5. It would also fit quite nicely with Ramsay Bolton’s marriage to fake Arya, in Winterfell.

I am in full agreement that Episode 10 should be called “A Dance with Dragons”. If the events of Daznak’s Pit unfold in the manner in which we have been lead to believe, with the leaked photos, then that is the perfect title for the last episode of Season 5.

As with any speculation regarding Game of Thrones, it is important to remember that we do not yet know the official titles, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun discussing what they should be. I look forward to seeing your thoughts.
