Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer: A GIF Breakdown

HBO finally released the official HD version of the Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer, on Friday. And many of the questions that arose from the plethora of leaked potato phone trailers coming out of the Game of Thrones IMAX Experience, late Thursday evening, were answered. That being said, I’ve broken down the entire Season 5 trailer, in GIFs, so that we can further expound on each scene.

Recently, I ranked my favorite first trailer for each season of Game of Thrones, with Season 4 topping my list. Now, with the release of the Season 5 trailer, I’ve got a new king of the hill. Maybe it’s the fantastic shots of long-awaited and rumored scenes, or maybe it was the cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes”, but I absolutely loved the Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer.

We open with Cersei and Jaime with the body of their father, Tywin, in the Great Sept of Baelor.

Next we see a shot of what appears to be the House Arryn guard escorting a carriage.

A shot of a boat rowing into what appears to be Hardhome.

Are these Sons of the Harpy, or Brazen Beasts?

Little Finger imparting wisdom to Sansa.

SAND SNAKES!

Is that Jaime and Bronn sneaking into Sunspear? Those two figures look like they may be in a hurry.

This looks like a young Cersei, drawing blood for a certain seer to read her future. Will we get the Prophecy of the Valonqar?

Someone’s hand, and that someone seems to be in distress. Who do we know that would be wearing a black shift or robe and might be undergoing some pain, or change?

Looks like the Sons of the Harpy are going to be causing all sorts of problems in Meereen.

Chaos in Daznak’s Pit! This looks like the Sons of the Harpy get brave and openly attack Dany and her guard.

A raven landing on some gross looking raw meat-like stuff, which is probably flayed bodies because you know, Game of Thrones.

Finally, the beautiful shot that I like to call, The Fall of the Harpy.

If nothing else, that final shot seems to go along with what Kit Harington said about Game of Thrones being bigger this season. Looks like HBO may have increased that budget, rather exponentially.
