Lena Headey announces pregnancy
Game of Thrones‘ most controversial mother is expecting. Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, has announced she is expecting.
The announcement came via the official conduit for celebrity publicist sanctioned news, People Magazine. This will be Headey’s second child. Her first child with ex-husband Peter Loughran, Wylie, is five.
For more details, including when Headey is due, see below.
As I said above, her first son is five, born just before the debut of Season 1. So this will not just be Lena Headey’s second pregnancy, but the second one she’ll have during the production of Game of Thrones. Fans might not have been aware but Headey was pregnant for much of the filming of the premiere season. Watch closely and you’ll note many of her scenes are filmed from the waist up, or engineered so that her lower half is obscured by tables. This is also why Cersei’s costume design with the very wide sleeves was developed–so she could lift her arms just so and disguise her belly from the camera. Or, as you can see above, with well placed shawls.
But that was a situation where the baby was due after filming was over, and the final six weeks or so of pregnancy, when it’s really hard to hide it, occurred after filming wrapped. Here Headey is announcing she is due in the summer–most likely late summer, Many of Cersei’s scenes every year having regularly been on location in Croatia, and usually filmed in September or early October, so if all goes well she should back for her regular filming time.
Congratulations to Headey on her big news.
