Game of Thrones Season 5 to premiere at Tower of London
April 12th looms ever closer, bringing with it the television premiere of the fifth season of Game of Thrones. But the world premiere of the new season will take place a month earlier, and in a new location. Sky TV, who partner with HBO to bring premium U.S. television content to the U.K., has revealed that the show’s world premiere will take place at the Tower of London.
More details after the jump.
The series will debut the fifth season premiere episode, directed by Michael Slovis, on March 18th in the historic Tower of London. My favorite part about the official press release is this fun little note about how the Tower of London is one of the most secure locations in the world:
“Respecting the impenetrable cloak of secrecy that shrouds the show, there couldn’t be a more fitting venue than the high-security home of the Crown Jewels, one of the world’s most famous fortresses, to showcase the opening episode of Season 5 for the first time anywhere.”
This quote just makes me think about all the various spy/thief shows that have ever discussed stealing the Crown Jewels. (Also, there’s every show that’s ever used “crown jewels” as a euphemism.) Sky TV is also offering 25 fans the chance to win tickets to the premiere; the details of this competition will be revealed later. The series will air for the rest of the U.K. starting April 13th, one day after the U.S. air date.
