A GIF breakdown of the new Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer
On Monday, HBO released the second official trailer for Game of Thrones Season 5, during their HBO Now/Apple announcement. The trailer, while containing scenes from the first official Season 5 trailer which was shown at the Game of Thrones IMAX Experience, is chocked full of all sorts of new and exciting scenes.
Join us after the jump, as we breakdown those new scenes, with GIFs!
This trailer really seemed to focus on Dany. In fact, we got to hear the entire “I’m going to break the wheel” speech. However, there were all sorts of cool scenes for our other characters, like Brienne and Pod.
Brienne has an oath to keep, and she wont easily suffer her honor to be tarnished, by letting a little thing like some inclement weather get in her way. Are we going to see the dynamic-duo travel to the North, this season?
Looks like Brienne is saving Pod from certain impending doom.
It also seems as if Brienne is a tad bit perturbed, in this scene.
We didn’t get a whole lot of Arya, in this trailer, but it does look like she might be inside the House of Black and White, here.
Arya and her coin.
Keeping it with the Stark girls, Sansa is really going to be taking a vastly different path in Season 5, than we’ve previously seen.
For instance, Sansa in the Winterfell crypts, is something that even book readers will find surprising.
In the first trailer, we saw a finger being pricked and a drop of blood falling to a piece of cloth. Many thought the finger belonged to a young Cersei from the much ballyhooed flashback scene, but might that digit belong to Sansa?
Take a closer look.
Next let’s look at Jon Snow’s scenes from the trailer. Jon appearing to arrive at Hardhome with his brothers in black…and possibly some new friends.
Hardhome/Jon Snow/Wildlings montage! Oh and looks like Tormund will be taking on that big bald Wildling.
Staying in the North, Melisandre and Stannis are now at Castle Black, or at least will be there for a little while. This scene looks like Melisandre is making a sacrifice to her god, the Lord of Light, R’hllor.
We also have Stannis and Mel in a tent looking at a map of the North with Bolton markers, which probably means they are on the march. Book readers, notice that Melisandre is with Stannis and not at Castle Black (Of course we don’t know the time-table…yet).
Speaking of the Boltons. The last we saw of Lord Roose and his newly legitimized son Ramsay, they were headed to Winterfell. Ramsay’s hunting companion Myranda, does not seem very pleased in this cut.
This scene appears to show Sansa coming home to the Bolton controlled Winterfell, accompanied by Little Finger and a few mounted Knights of the Vale. Definitely a major departure from the books.
Leaving the North, and heading to King’s Landing, Cersei is going to have a very interesting season, in Season 5.
She seems so pleased to welcome her new daughter-in-law.
Tommen will have more of a story, this season. He’s the new king, he’s getting married, and apparently he’s about to scrap with the sparrows of the Faith. That’s the steps leading to the Great Sept of Baelor, and there’s a reason the sparrows are blocking his way.
The sparrows and their leader, the High Sparrow, are going to be making all sorts of noise in King’s Landing.
This scene has Ser Loras Tyrell, charging across a room, and being restrained by more sparrows. Notice Lady Olenna, Tommen and Cersei, in the background.
Moving over to Dorne, Jaime and Bronn are going to be going on an adventure!
As I said in the beginning, this trailer seemed very Dany centered. Dany and Tyrion will be meeting, this season, which means we will get to see the Long Bridge, in the city of Volantis.
Tyrion gets a sneak peek at a dragon, probably Drogon.
Now let’s get to Dany and Meereen.
The Sons of the Harpy are going to cause all sorts of havoc and chaos.
Grey Worm and his Unsullied will have their hands full.
We’ve also got some gladiator pit action.
Finally, we come to my favorite part of the new trailer, Dany trying to reach out to a much larger Drogon.
Hopefully we will start to get more and more new teasers from HBO, as we near the one month mark until the Season 5 premiere. Stay tuned, because it’s about to start getting fun!
