Charles Dance Says David Cameron Is No Lannister
UK politics and Game of Thrones continue to mix in bizarre and hilarious ways. Earlier this week, a leftist campaign group tried to co-opt the show in order to make a point. Now it’s the conservative’s turn. Earlier this week, David Cameron was asked who his favorite character was from the monster hit show. His response was the kind of thing you would expect to hear from someone who doesn’t want to offend anyone. “That is an impossible question to answer,” he said. “I thought Ned Stark was great, I love Sean Bean, I was a big fan of Sharpe.” (Sharpe, for American readers, was a historical drama that ran on ITV from 1993-2008. Bean starred in it for the first four seasons.)
Never mind that though Ned Stark is “the noble hero answer.” His rigid inability to play politics not only spawned the show’s first major meme of “Stupid Ned Stark,” but made him the first major death of the series.
So what House should Cameron be in if not Stark? Charles Dance weighs in below.
Chances are that if Cameron, a man who managed to politic his way to Number 10 after a divided election, was actually in the GoT universe, he would have rolled his eyes and dismissed Ned Stark as “not cut out for this.” He seems like more of a Lannister, if anything. The Debrief clearly agreed. They went up to Charles Dance, who played Tywin Lannister on the show, at the premiere and asked if Cameron would make a good Lannister. Dance’s response?
‘I don’t think he’s brave enough to be a Lannister, darling.’
When a family that would accept Joffrey won’t accept you, that’s pretty harsh. I have an idea for Cameron though, if he’s looking for help in the polls. Get Sky Atlantic to stop being stubborn, and simulcast Game of Thrones Season 5 in the UK along with the other 170 countries on the planet.
