Designing Game of Thrones: Weirwood Leaves

One of my favorite parts of Westeros are the weirwood trees. They’re huge, beautiful, and they stick out like bright red and white landmarks against the Westerosi landscape. Of course, they didn’t get to be striking on their own. The Game of Thrones props department has been making them since Season 1, but they have to top them up every year to make sure they’re big and bushy and ready for their close up. Check out a video about how the team creates the weirwoods below.

Next, we have a new promo for the back to back Game of Thrones reruns that will play on HBO2 next week, Monday through Friday. And when you’re talking about being back to back, you know that means you need to watch your back, especially in a world where betrayal is just the regular cost of doing business.

There’s something lovely and poetic about the betrayal of Ned, which Littlefinger worked so hard to engineer in order to get another chance with Catelyn, juxtaposed with the Red Wedding and that moment before he pushed Lysa out the moon door.
